Stortford shoppers backed a “People’s Vote” on the Brexit deal in a special poll carried out on a stall in Bishop’s Stortford Market Square attended by Herts Euro MP Alex Mayer this Saturday (23rd January).
Campaigners from East Herts for Europe have now urged MP Mark Prisk to listen to the results and let the people have a vote on May’s Brexit deal.
Local residents were invited to give their opinion on the Brexit process by placing a coloured sticker on a ‘Brexitometre’.
Over 90% chose the option of calling for a People’s Vote while 183 visitors to the stall signed a petition to Mark Prisk MP.
Stephen Skinner, Co-Chair of East Herts for Europe, which ran the stall said:
“There was a healthy and respectful debate and it was great to see people of all ages involved and expressing where they stood.”
“East Hertfordshire voted narrowly to leave the EU in 2016, but what we have seen shows that more and more people are reconsidering, especially given the mess the Government has made of the negotiations.”
Hertfordshire Euro MP Alex Mayer said:
“My view is that Theresa May has failed. She keeps dithering and delaying while more and more information comes to light that no one knew three years ago when we had the EU referendum. We certainly met many shoppers who said they had changed their minds. The democratic way to sort this out is to put the deal back to the people”
