A historic hearing to discuss human rights violations in Kashmir will take place in the European Parliament early in the new year, it was confirmed today.
Following a successful campaign by MEPs, the Parliament has agreed to hold a special hearing in 2019 to take evidence about the large-scale human rights violations taking place there.
Parliamentarians hope that the Prime Minister of Kashmir will attend along with human rights experts and people from the Kashmir diaspora.
Luton Euro MP Alex Mayer, who is part of the All-Party Kashmir group in the European Parliament said: “This is an international recognition of rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The terrible crimes against women and children and the use of pellet guns must end.
I hope this hearing will help raise awareness about the Kashmir issue at an international level and give hope the people of Kashmir.”
